Artist Statement July 2008

“Artists to my mind are the real architects of change, and not the political legislators who implement change after the fact.” ~ William S. Burroughs

His first multi-piece show in high school led to the sale of his first print to the Fitz Eager Collection. His early work reflects the journey of the soul. Shaken by experiences of people getting overwhelmed with the world that they resorted to unhealthy releases, he wanted to find a healthier medium to work in besides self-mutilation or drugs. Reflected in this early work, his path of creation led him into deep spiritual spaces. After studying the artwork of Zen, he realized that higher states of awareness could be taught through art.

Having always been concerned with content over technicality, Link creates art that does not hold fear. It is carefully composed and highly purposeful. His creations breed a great range of emotion. Working in every medium he can get his hands on, it is of little doubt that without such means of release he may have exploded or imploded long ago. The shear number of pieces Link has created is already overwhelming. His work reflects his knowledge of the history and technique of the art world and some of it is even writing new chapters.

Link’s work holds metaphors, metaphors of nature and human-nature and how one cannot and should not exist without the other. His work is a direct reflection of the belief that learning to redirect our energies is the single most important thing a human being can learn to do after liberating themselves from themselves. The hundred or so private patrons who have collected his work over the years understand this. His work challenges, pushes, and inspires.

Link has gone to places with his mind and with his art which baffle many. His work is presently being directed towards strong social satire and commentary. Works in progress include The Deepest Ocean and Psych O’ Art. Each piece is accompanied by a page description of the work. He is also working on a retrospective of his pen and ink drawings. On top of this his most recent photography project deals with the interaction of culture, nature, and tourism. He has also begun taking slideshows to the next level, not only to present his work but as pieces of art within themselves. Furthermore, he is constantly creating functional art such as slideshow lamps & wooden furniture burned with original imagery.

It has been rumored a few times that Link died, but luckily for those who know his work this was not the case. He was just missing. Fortunately he learned from one of the greats that cutting off your ear won’t let people know you hear them, and there is no better way to get people to listen then to let them see. It would probably take the loss of each and everyone of his senses to force this artist to stop creating.
